Let’s talk tact…
Or how I have had to learn the lesson of it many of times.
No shame, because of my odd fumbling of words in the past, I have learned a heck of a lot about appropriateness vs abruptness. (Shout out to my many mentors who have held my hand along that journey!)
That said, I read this morning how VS Angel model, Jessica Hart, was fired for ‘dissing’ Taylor Swift.
I was pumped. Not because I really care about what a VS model says, nor do I have any tiff with Ms. Swift, but because I finally figured someone was brave enough to express their personal opinion on America’s ‘sweetheart’.
But just as quickly as I was pumped, I was instantly let down. The model was very tactful in her statement, stating
“I think what you find is that for a lot of us, we’ve been working for 14, 15 years; what it takes to make it here comes from experience and confidence and knowing how to be confident with yourself. I think it comes with age. It’s definitely the benchmark of all jobs.”
Whether or not Taylor rocked the catwalk or not, I don’t know. I do know however, the model was merely stating personal opinion, and more so a tactful and counted opinion. I applaud that.
Perhaps companies need to stop being so hyper-paranoid to offend, and be more willing to be honest and unique. Unique strengths will outweigh boring and typical any day (Just ask David and Goliath).
Thus I challenge any who may read this, there is no better way to be noticed, than by being #YOU !!
